For these shoe sketches their only purpose is imagination and fun. And of course communicating an idea of a shoe and foot integrated in space. I love the work of Manolo Blahnik and see his shoe sketches as proof that there’s a place for whimsical shoe paintings out there. Why the shoe? It’s just a versatile vehicle of fashion that can be shaped into all kinds of things beyond the ordinary with maybe one limit- that it should somehow stay on the foot without falling off if it was produced. These are quick sketches. Each takes maybe 45 min to make from pencil to ink and watercolor. They are great warm ups for my brain. Just lightweight stuff on a heavy planet.
